Digital Badge for Universal Design in Teaching and Learning

In partnership with the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, AHEAD and UCD Access & Lifelong Learning are teaming up to facilitate the Digital Badge for Universal Design in Teaching and Learning in a fully online format starting October 3rd. This course was developed by AHEAD and UCD as part of the Forum’s open courses initiative and this ‘train the trainer’ iteration of the course is aimed at those who are interested in facilitating the course in their own institutions at a later date (e.g. for other staff). Due to the expected very high demand, we are giving you an opportunity to register before the course is publicly announced next Wednesday Sept 4th.

It will run for 10 weeks from Oct 3rd 2019 and will provide participants with a strong introduction to the Universal Design for Learning Framework and give them the opportunity to implement UDL approaches within the teaching activities they are currently undertaking. The course involves approximately 25 hours over the 10 week period, averaging 2.5 hours per week with a 5 hour add on later in the course for those interested in becoming future facilitators of the course themselves.

This free iteration of the course is particularly aimed at individuals or groups of individuals who are interested in rolling out the badge as a facilitator at a later date (e.g. for staff in their institution).

Please note, since one of the aims of this iteration of the course is to train future facilitators, we are limiting the number of participants per institution that can sign up to 3 should the course be over subscribed. If we reach full capacity, we will contact the latest participants to register from each institution to notify them of the situation.

Course Description

The purpose of this award is to enable the learner with an intellectual disability to develop relevant knowledge and competence and to be able to use a range of skills under supervision. It is aimed that the learners will develop a lifelong learning ethos with the promotion of inclusion to third level education. The programme will be delivered on a part time capacity over a period of 2 academic years. This will allow sufficient time for the learners to develop and take ownership of their learning as well as ensuring sufficient supports are in place for them to engage fully in the programme as well as third level community life.

The programme is open to individuals either supported by an agency or independent learners who meet the entry requirements.

Course Description

The Certificate in Arts, Science and Inclusive Applied Practice is highly innovative in Irish and international terms, pioneering an exciting approach that opens up specially designed third level study opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities. The programme is aimed at transforming possibilities open to people with intellectual disability as they make transitions towards adult life and the workforce. Ultimately, the goal is to achieve a roll-out of this model of provision across other interested third level institutions in Ireland and elsewhere.
